Headie One Caps Off The Season By Giving Himself The ‘Golden Boot’

Now that the year is drawing to a close, it’s time to crown Headie One as the best rapper in the UK drill scene over the past twelve months. He’s yet to drop a feature length release, unlike K Trap, whose long awaited ‘The Last Whip’ featured a collab between the two, nor does his delivery grab the youngers attention like 410’s AM or Harlem’s MizOrMac, or even Loski, whose surprise appearance at Wireless festival this summer probably makes him the highest profile of all these names. But Headie One, like K-Trap, captures the imagination in other ways, and people have been responding to what he has to say, and the infinite amount of ways he finds to say it, for awhile now.

The ‘golden boot’ is an award given to the top goalscorer in the British Premier League at the end of the season. It’s easy to see why the North London rapper would make that comparison. Since commemorating his release from HMP Thameside and return to the game with the catchy ‘Losses And Winnings’ on PressPlay at the start of the year, Headie One has frequently teamed up with fellow OFB member, the equally hard hitting RV, to score points all over the YouTube freestyle circuit, counting Behind Barz, Westwood Crib Sessions, Mad About Bars and even Radar Radio amongst their many shutdowns. MkThePlug and M1OnTheBeat have been on a tear for awhile now, and their production on Golden Boot has all the immediacy of your typical UK drill track slowed down just enough to let Headie’s way above average lyricism shine through. Check it out and listen to the OFB mixtape.
