Lily Allen’s last album “Sheezus” came out way back in 2014. Since then we haven’t heard much from Lily, at least on the music front apart from her cover of Rufus Wainwrights politically charged “Going to Town”, which she shared as part of her anti-Trump playlist. In fairness she has been pretty busy giving a shit about the Refugee crisis, which, naturally for 2017 was met with derision and an onslaught of insults. Caring about other people and helping the displaced? In 2017? Shame on you.
But yesterday we were blessed with her latest offering ‘Trigger Bang’, which is a BOP and features none other than a guest verse from the landlord himself. The crackly lo-fi piano lead gradually goes from subtle to stardust, as Giggs short but sweet contribution gives way to Lily powering through a very good, very unexpected slice of pop goodness, reflecting on youth and the height of her fame in her signature style of naked songwriting and plenty of tongue in cheek one liners. More of this in 2018 please Lily!
